Tsum valley – Rupanila Pass Trek is one of the remotest Himalayan valley which takes you to the hidden valley located to the east of Manaslu, on the border with Tibet. It is untouched with an ancient villages, Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, unique art, culture, religion and most hospitality of ethnic people welcome you in their traditional way of their home. Literally “Tsum” means “vivid” home to the direct descendant Tibetan people known as Tsumbas. This trails takes you into the majestic backdrop of the Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal and Bouddha Himal. We will explore around the Mu Gompa which is the oldest monastery of this region.
The trek start from Baluwa and end at Sotikhola with a drive to Gorkha Bazzar and Baluwa from Kathmandu and similarly back to Kathmandu from Sotikhola. During trekking period we trek through Barpak village which is the largest Gurung village of Gorkha district. Every day we trek around 4-7 hours through different small villages, mix of dense forest, alpine forest, rivers, terraced green fields, hills and will enjoy the hospitality of ethic people.
This region have still less tourist in comparison to other touristy area with relatively virgin and less beaten paths. There is possibility to do Manaslu circuit and Tsum valley, both within one program. After your breakfast at hotel, we drive to Gorkha Bazar. Gorkha bazar is a small town with an old palace of the King who united many small hill states to form a new modern Nepal. The term Gorkha Army comes from this place. We will walk a 1500 steps from Bazar to reach the palace on the top of the hill and do camping on the side for overnight stay, with beautiful sunset, if the weather permits.
Drive from Gorkha Bazar to Baluwa for about 2-3 hrs. We lunch in Baluwa before we start our trek to the wilderness. Trek from Baluwa to Barpak for about 3-4 hrs. Barpak is a beautiful village of ethnic group called Ghale Gurung with rich culture. It is also an epi-center of 7.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in April 2015. This whole village was collapsed after the earthquake and it’s going through re-construction till date. Also you will be in the foothills of Boudha Himal on the Northwest of Barpak. This place give the feeling of truly bring in the Mountain region.
Trek from Barpak to Gai Kharka will take 5-6 hrs. Depending on your fitness/walking. We will go through uphill and downhill along the ways preparing oneself for further adventure in coming days. Camping in Gai Kharka for overnight. This is a first day of real camping trek in wilderness.
Trek from Gai Kharka to Rupanila Phedi. This day is going to be trek in altitude higher than 3,000 m. Trek route consists of steep uphill and pine forest in wilderness.
The finally the pass day. Early start of the day to reach an altitude of 4,720 m above sea level. There is steep uphill and downhill. The terrain is quite tough to get through. However our experienced team will try to make the day as easy as possible. Descend to Boudha Himal base camp and overnight camping there.
We descend from Boudha Himal Base camp to Nyak through pine forest and high Altitude Mountains. Our final destination of first part of trek comes to an end when reached Nyak village which is on the top of hill. Nyak is a small village of Gurung people. It is quite famous for growing apple in this place. It like next to Budi Gandaki River which comes from Tsum valley and Nubri Valley above this place.
Nyak to Lokpa is a game of altitude. We descend from 2,300 m to 700 m, riverbank of Budi Gandaki and again climb up to 2,200 m to reach Lokpa. Lokpa is a small village on the side of Bud Gandaki.
Lokpa to Chumling is mostly a flat walk along the river with few uphill with many suspension bridge. The walk will be through pine and rhododendron forest. We will reach this small village on the other side of Chumling called sipchet. It has only 20 families living there. You can see various birds and mountain animals like mountain goats on the way, if lucky.
Chhokamparo is local name for Chekkampar. It is a village from where you enter the valley in the mountain foot. You will be able to see glorious Ganesh Himal, Himchuli Himal when you reach Chhokamro.
We walk through the valley with beautiful Rachen Gumba and river that divides the valley into two. End of the valley is called Nile with altitude of 3,300 m. Overnight stay in Nile.
Early day start to Mu Gompa (3,800 m) and back to Nile for lunch. We then walk back to Chhokamparo for overnight. From this day we start to descend in our trip back to city.
We descend from Chhokamparo to Gho and again ascend to Gumba Lungdang at 3,200 m. Overnight in this mountain foothills with beautiful 360 degree of mountains surrounding you.
This is another difficult day of the trip. We will leave our belongings in the camp and go for a day trip. We will be walking through forest and poor trails. Waking with guide is very important. Base camp lies at the height of 3,700 m. It’s a 4 hours of difficult trails to reach there. Overnight in the monastery in Gumba Lungdang.
A day of descending through farms of the mountains and villages.
Trek along the Gandaki River through Gurng villages. You can see the difference in lifestyle as you go in the lower attitude. Diversity of flora, fauna and geography is quite unique to see.
Long walk along the river of Budi Gandaki to reach Machhakhola. Overnight stay in Machhakhola.
Another day of descend along the river. And last day of trekking.
Early morning breakfast and off road drive for 3-4 hours and highway drive for 3-4 hours. Finally back in Kathmandu and placed in Hotel. Nepali traditional dinner for farewell.

1) Travel Insurance (Mandatory)
a) Have your travel insurance policy to cover theft, loss and medical
problems is an excellent idea for travel in Nepal. Check your
policies available carefully because some policies exclude
“Dangerous activities”.
b) Choose a policy that covers medical and emergency repatriation,
including helicopter evacuation for trekkers and general medical
evacuation to hospital.
c) Do not forget to say your travel insurance company where you are
travelling (country) and about your activities like trekking, climbing
or expedition and their altitude too.
Note: Make copies of your Insurance policy and do not forget to
carry your travel insurance policy number with you.
2) Valid Passport and Visa
a) A valid passport and two passport size photos with a light
background.
b) Normally, visa can be issued on your arrival at the Tribhuvan
International Airport (TIA) OR major surface entry points.
c) Make copies of your passport with including your visa pages with
you and take it with you during your expedition, trekking, tour
period.
3) Cancellation Policy
We understand things happen and plans change and will refund your
deposit minus a $150 cancelation fee. Once we have booked your
flight between Kathmandu, Pokhara and Lukla your deposit is non-
refundable. If your travel dates change we can generally reschedule
you at no extra charge, but please provide at least 7 days advance
notice.
Note: After starting the tour, trekking in your destination: – No
refund.
4) Payment Method
a) Deposit should be 50% of total amount per person (to be agreed).
b) Confirmation: On receipt of deposit the Clients place on the
program will be confirmed.
c) Balance: Due no later than 60 days prior to trip departure.
Method: By bank transfer, credit card, cheques, or by cash.
d) Balance not received by the agreed date: We reserve the right to
cancel the booking and the deposit will be forfeited – unless The
Client specifies another date which The Company accepts.
Note:
1) Bank charges will be charged at cost and payment by cost
entails 4% extra.
2) Please provide us with your bank receipt, after transfer of
payment to our Account (A/c).
