Dhorpatan Fagune Lake Trek is the newly explored trekking route in Nepal that lies in the Dhaulagiri Himal in the Western Nepal in the Rukum, Myagdi & Baglung districts. Putha, Churen and Gurja Himal extend over the northern boundary of the reserve. Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve was established in 1983 and was gazetted in 1987. Management objectives of the reserve allow sports hunting and preserve a representative high altitude ecosystem in West Nepal. Fagune Lake has got different identity and famous for Yarsagumba. Yarsagumba is the herbal medicinal half plant and half animal. This can be found only in the high altitude Himalayan hills. The main objective of the trekking is to explore the place where local people flock to collect this highly demanded medicinal herb in the season, to promote local tourism.
On Dhorpatan Fagune Lake Trek, we start with a fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara and drive to Darbang and ascends the trail of Takum, Lungsum, Jaljala La, Gurjaghat and finally reachinguoto Dhorpatan. Dhorpatan is the only hunting reserve in the country to meet the sports hunting needs of Nepalese and foreign hunters of blue sheep and other game animals. The higher elevations remain snow-capped throughout the year. Local people depend on the reserve to meet their requirements for wood, fuel wood, fodder, and pasture. The majority of people belong to the Mongoloid race, including Magar, Thakali, and Gurung. After Dhorpatan we take the trail of Dhaha Kharka, Byashi, Uttarganga, Bobang , Burdibang and finally ending our trek with a drive to Pokhara.
Dhorpatan is also an attractive destination for the trekkers and wildlife enthusiasts as protection has enabled animal numbers to increase in this rarely visited. Dhorbaraha, a Hindu religious place on the banks of Uttarganga River near Dhorpatan lies in Fagune blocks. Every year on the day of “Janai Purnima” in August, a religious fair is held here which is attended by many local devotees.
